Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Are staplers available?
Yes, in response to client requests, Computer Lab Management is piloting staplers to complement its printing service. Electronic staplers can be found in most computer rooms. For more information, see the CLM News Brief on Staplers installed in computer rooms.
Is there a lost and found?
Computer Lab Management (CLM) provides a lost and found service for
anything lost in the computer rooms. Check with a Computer Room Consultant
(CRC) you may find your lost book/jacket/disk/etc. Lost and found items
are removed from the computer rooms every Friday. Ask the CRC for details.
Wallets or anything that seems to have over $100 value are turned
into the Campus police, 752-1230, the same day they are found.
Why does MyUCDavis print funny?
The MyUCDavis website is divided into frames. These are basically
little windows inside the web browser. Printing from Internet Explorer
should be fine. When printing from Mozilla, you may need to specify
which frame you are printing. To do this you must:
- Click inside the frame that you would like to print.
- Then go to File --> Print.
- Click on General and select Mozilla.
- Select 'The Selected Frame'.
Helpful Hints:
Working with floppies
When editing a file it is suggested that you first copy the file onto
the desktop, make your changes, then save it to your floppy.
This will help prevent file corruption or damage. We recommend
using USB Flash Drives to transfer your files. This is another storage
device which you can plug into a USB port. They have a higher memory capacity,
faster data transfer rate, cross-platformable, and are a little bit harder
to break than floppies. USB Flash Drives are available for purchase at the
UCD Bookstore Computer Shop.
Printing PDFs
If you're having trouble printing a PDF on a website, try to download
the PDF file to the desktop and then print it from there.
You can do this by right clicking on the link from a PC or control clicking
on the link from a Mac. Select download/save link to disk from the
new menu that opened up. The PDF will now be located on your desktop.
Open the document in Adobe Acrobat Reader, or another PDF viewer, and print
it from there.
Printing more than one page on a sheet
Printing multiple pages on a sheet may seem mind boggling, however it is rather simple.
1. Click on File then Print in the menubar.
A new window should pop up.
2. Click on General and scroll down to Layout.
Now you can select how many pages you would like to see on
one side of the sheet. However the paper may still print out Double
Sided. To change that click on the printer bar (it should say Double
Sided by default) in the window and select Single Sided.
