New 41-seat Computer Classroom Opens in Winter 05

A new 41-seat computer classroom opened for business in late January. The room will be located in the Sciences Lab Building, room 2020. The room will be open Monday thru Thurs from 8 AM to 10 PM and Friday 8 AM to 5 PM. Located at the new Sciences Lab Building, the computer room is at the northern part of the building on the second floor, upstairs from the building's cafe. The building is located close to the Silo, between the Life Sciences Addition and Haring Hall on Hutchison Drive.
Conceived several years ago as a joint venture between the Division of Biological Sciences (DBS) and Information and Educational Technology (IET), the room will provide up to 40 percent of its hours for DBS classroom use. When not in use by DBS classes or other scheduled classes, the room will be available as an open access lab.
The room is equipped with Dell Optiplex GX270 computers with a 3Ghz-P4 processor, CD-RW/DVD Rom drive and 17" flat panel display. The campus provided one-time startup funds of $135,000 as well as $122,000 in annual, on-going funds for the facility. In addition, Microsoft and Dell Computer Corp provided 25 computers for the facility. Under an agreement between DBS and IET, Classroom Technology Services will manage the computer classroom.
