New Computer Lab Opens in 182 Shields
A new 38-station open access computer room opened for business September 24th, 2008. The new computer room is located in 182 Shields, and is the second computer lab in the library. Shields Library now has a total of 57 computers run by CLM: room182 consists of 20 quick access 10-minute stations and 18 sit down open access stations, and room 163 consists of 19 sit down open access stations and 4 A/V viewing stations.
Shields 182 has 34 Dell Optiplex GX755s with 4GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, and 17" Dell LCD displays running Windows XP, and 4 Apple iMacs with Intel Core 2 Duo processors running OS 10.5 Tiger.
After IT Express made the decision to close its walk-in help desk and emphasize phone support, their space in 182 Shields was provided to Computer Lab Management to accommodate the high demand for additional computers in the library. Password resets were the most requested service for the IT Express help desk, so Computer Lab Management's open access computer labs have begun offering this service to provide better access to clients.
