Two Macs upgraded to Mac OS X in Meyer Media Lab for Pilot Project

As part of a general effort to upgrade all Mac computers to OS X, CLM has deployed Mac OS X (10.3) on two Apple Macintosh G4 Towers in the Meyer Media Lab at 1154 Meyer Hall. This deployment is part of a larger pilot project to evaluate the feasibility and deployment issues of OSX for all CLM Mac computers. CLM currently uses Mac OS 9 as its standard operating system for all Mac computers.
Some of our faculty and student clients have requested the upgrade to Mac OS X so that they make take advantage of the newest multimedia applications. The operating system provides additional functionality, performance boost, and stability over Mac OS 9. Multimedia software currently available on the market take advantage of the OS X environment. Some recent software releases will only work on the new operating system. Deployment and security issues have been the major hurdles in migrating to OS X.
The test computers will be available to all computer room customers at the start of the 2004 winter quarter. These machines will have both the standard software suite and multimedia software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Faculty who currently use Mac computer classrooms will be notified so they can evaluate the new operating system, test class specific software, and provide general feedback on the upgrade. All clients can call the Meyer Media Lab at 752-5215 for reservations.
