What Is Apple Remote Desktop (ARD)?
Apple Remote Desktop is a desktop management package. Computer Lab Management (CLM) provides ARD in computer classrooms for its screen management tools.
What can ARD do?
The four primary functions of ARD are:
- Lock the screen of a specific or all stations
- Observe another station’s screen
- Control another station
- Share screens between stations
Where is ARD installed?
Apple Remote Desktop is installed in all Mac classrooms. These are all computer classrooms in Olson and in 1102 Hart. The ARD administration program is only installed on the instructor’s station.
Is there anything I should know before using ARD?
There is a password required to use the program. It is available from the Computer Room Consultant (CRC). Since the program can access sensitive information, please do not share this password with anyone else.
How do I open Apple Remote Desktop?
From the Finder:
- Click on ‘Class software’ in the Finder window sidebar
- Open ‘Apple Remote Desktop’

- When prompted, enter the ARD password.
